Seamstresses Unite! And then what happened?!

On March 18, I put a shout out on Facebook to seamstresses who wanted to sew masks; within 12 weeks, we have produced 21,000 Face Masks!

The original idea was to supply face masks to healthcare workers due to extreme shortages. We were soon making masks for 1st responders, essential workers and immunocompromised individuals. We responded to hot spot areas and provided masks to those in need.

Today

There is no longer a shortage of face masks except for those who cannot afford to buy masks.

We have received an overwhelming amount of support from donors by way of material and monetary donations. We currently have enough supplies to continue making masks for those in need and enough cash to pay for shipping. So, we will be closing our Go Fund Me page at this time.

  • We will stop taking requests on the website on Monday, June 15, however, seamstresses will continue to sew to fulfill orders placed prior, as well as to support their communities and to assist with the major outbreak in Yakima, Washington.  All supplies donated will be utilized to make masks.  Any dollars left over from our GoFundMe campaign will be donated to local food banks once all shipping and materials are paid for.

Future

Once this Pandemic is behind us, we would like to continue in a slightly different way; How about continuing to sew for charity? Maybe pick a project every quarter? Like sewing for nursing home patients, animal shelters, the Linus Project, homeless shelters, etc. Together we could develop patterns and instructions and encourage each other. Everyone could pick an organization in their own area to provide to. Some of our teams could continue to work together or individuals could work on their own.

  • SU! will be on hiatus until January 2021 when we will begin the relaunch.

I have been so inspired by all that has happened with this group. The selfless giving of time, materials, and love. I am humbled by this great group and feel blessed to have been your leader.

Thank you all,

Trish

Please note: It is REQUIRED that you sanitize these masks before they are used. You must follow the Safety Protocols of your organization when issuing and using these masks.
